Hello Visitors,

I’m a Los Angeles based artist, writer, and mover, working within an expanded notion of painting. You can often find me at the edges of where painting meets the performative and the speculative.

Ideally, my work lives double lives and forms in double ways— in the studio it’s formation is one of intuition, of working among the rubble of painting’s histories and modernity’s failures; to reanimate, to build and to destroy once again. It’s also the poking and prodding of limits, a test of elasticity — (can a painting be charged like a battery?) and a contending with the personal histories of making in a body (from fingertip to toe) and my attempt to build space that is protective of these histories in it’s opacity. There is a feeling of movement studies while painting — a priority to create the conditions of a stumble, of recentering toward an off-center, of shaking off old habits and finding new rhythms, and there is an infinite reaching towards the unknown. What forms from this is a kind of calcification of an event.

The titles of the work are taken from my writing— often fragments and unfinished dust bunnies lost in the cloud. Moving in and out of time, reshuffling and recycling from the archive  --these are then used to form entrances and exits--minor architecture--for viewers to better travel through the work.

The sublimation occurs when the painting enters spaces outside of its making. The priority shifts into being an object that reflects as a mirror, as an actor sensitive to the conditions of its exhibition and the spaces it exists in. It attempts an inquiry not unlike an experimental theatre workshop—in which there are costumes and dialogues between other works and other actors, in which there are flops and embarrassments to be had, and in which improvisation and even magic can occur.

Hope to talk soon ~

xx
